International Crew Accreditation

Accreditation Requirements:

All foreign crew members require a temporary work permit, also known as a “special pass,” to work in Kenya.

  • Estimated arrival and departure dates

The accreditation process typically takes 2-4 weeks.

General Film Permit

Issuing Organisation:

The Kenya Film Classification Board issues the General Film Permit.

Timing:

The permit is typically processed within 24 to 72 hours.

  • Script/Treatment/Synopsis/Outline

Cost:

  • Documentaries/TV commercials/Photography: $50 base rate + $10 per filming day

Drone Permit

Drone Importation Regulations:

Advance notice of 2-3 months required. However, local professional drone operators are available.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority issues drone permits.

  • Local Drone Application: Drone operators apply directly for personal annual licenses.
  • Drone Importation Application: We partner with licensed drone companies for this service.

Permit processing takes approximately 2 months.

Equipment Customs Clearance

Carnet Country Status:

Kenya is not a Carnet country.

Customs Clearance Process:

  • Kenya uses a “non-refundable bond” system for equipment clearance.
  • Equipment bond: 1% of the total equipment value (capped at $300)
  • Clearing agent fee: $450 per clearance (includes meeting crew at baggage hall)

Clearance Issuance:
